The Borough of Allentown recently secured a $2.6 million loan from the NJ Water Bank to upgrade and flood-proof its Water Treatment Plant. Key improvements include elevating electrical equipment, installing a new diesel generator with an automatic transfer switch, and replacing filter media, underdrain systems, valves, and aerators in Plants 1 and 2. Filter, lime, and supernatant tanks will be cleaned and painted, and well #1 will be rehabilitated with flood gates, new exterior doors, and roof replacements. Additional upgrades include a new fluoride room floor, an improved sump pump, modified discharge piping, stormwater enhancements, and new fencing and gates.
In continuous operation for nearly 100 years, the plant and its two wells are essential to the Borough's water supply. These upgrades are necessary to maintain safe, reliable operations and ensure compliance with NJDEP standards.
