WESTERN MONMOUTH UTILITIES AUTHORITY FORCE MAIN REPLACEMENTS

Western Monmouth Utilities Authority (WMUA) recently closed on a $7.6 million loan with the New Jersey Water Bank to replace two aging force mains that are critical components of the Authority's wastewater collection system.

The Hawkins Road force main was originally constructed in 1976, while the Mill Ponds force main was originally constructed as an 8-inch force main in 1974 and replaced with a 12-inch force main in 1994. In recent years, both force mains have experienced multiple breaks, with deterioration observed on the exterior of the pipes at locations. Having reached the end of their useful lives, the force mains are being replaced to improve system reliability and reduce the potential for future breaks and associated maintenance costs.

The project includes the replacement of approximately 5,300 linear feet of 14-inch force main along Hawkins Road and approximately 4,555 linear feet of 12-inch force main serving the Mill Ponds area. Work also includes air release valves and associated manholes, connections to existing force mains, backfilling and restoration of areas disturbed during construction.

These improvements will strengthen WMUA's wastewater infrastructure, reduce the risk of force main failures and potential wastewater releases, lower ongoing maintenance needs and help ensure reliable wastewater service for the communities served by the Authority.

This project was designed by CME Associates and will be constructed by JVS Industrial and Commercial Contractors, Inc.
