NJ I-Bank and NJDEP Helping to Improve New Jersey's Infrastructure, One Project at a Time

The Joint Meeting of Essex and Union Counties (JMEUC) recently closed on a $17,350,000 construction loan with the NJ Water Bank to rehabilitate its wastewater treatment plant. The project proposes waste gas Burner Upgrades, various structure rehabilitation, construction of a new Primary Tunnel building and replacement of severely corroded piping and installation of new primary sludge pumps.

The Waste Gas Burner Upgrades will reduce maintenance needs and increase reliability of the waste gas burner system. The installation of new enclosed flares will meet current NJDEP air quality permitting requirements. Rehabilitation of various structures throughout the plant will reduce the potential for structural and architectural failures that could pose safety hazards. A new Primary Tunnel Building is also proposed to eliminate confined space as required by permit and severely corroded piping within the existing Primary Tunnel will be replaced.
