CCMUA BERLIN TOWNSHIP EMERGENCY FORCE MAIN REHABILITATION

The Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority ("CCMUA") recently completed clean water improvements that are being financed with approximately $2.8 million in loans from the NJ Water Bank, a low-rate funding program jointly administered by the DEP and the NJ I-Bank. Total savings for this project are estimated to be $868,029 over the 30-year term of the loan or 31% of the total project cost. In addition, this project created an estimated 32 direct construction jobs. 

During the repair of a leak detected in CCMUA's Berlin Township force main pipe, it was determined that the pipe was corroded from outside forces. It was further determined that nearby sections of force main were leaking due to corrosion. The discovery of the chronic corrosion and leaking pipe triggered an emergency response to determine its cause and rehabilitate the damaged force main.

"The rehabilitation of the Berlin Township force main improved efficiency and minimized adverse impacts on water quality caused by pipe leakage," said Jeffrey L. Nash, Camden County Commissioner. "The swift discovery and management of the problem is commended as is the strategic financing through the Water Bank, to save rate payers money over time."

This project was designed by PS&S Engineering and constructed by Mount Construction Co., Inc.
