Aqua New Jersey recently closed on three loans from the NJ Water Bank to fund critical water infrastructure upgrades. Two of the loans will finance the full replacement of lead service lines in the Blackwood and Phillipsburg water systems. The Blackwood project, located in Gloucester Township, Camden County, received $6.5 million, while the Phillipsburg system in Warren County was financed at $6.1 million. Replacing these lead lines will significantly reduce the public health risk posed by lead in drinking water.
The third loan, totaling $2 million, will finance the construction of a new wellhouse in the Summit Lake Franchise area of Hardyston, NJ. The facility will include a storage tank, booster pumps, chemical feed systems, and PFAS treatment technology. PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), including PFOS (perfluoro octane sulfonic acid), are a group of synthetic chemicals used in industrial processes and consumer products. These substances can contaminate drinking water and pose health risks, making their removal a vital part of maintaining water quality.
