SUSSEX COUNTY MUNICIPALITY UTILITIES AUTHORITY LOAN CLOSING

NJ I-Bank and NJDEP Helping to Improve New Jersey's Infrastructure, One Project at a Time

The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA) recently closed on a $7,775,092 loan with the NJ Water Bank for the construction of a pumping station and force main to convey landfill leachate to the Upper Wallkill Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) rather than continuing the practice of trucking leachate for treatment and disposal. Currently, leachate generated from the landfill is collected and stored at the SCMUA Solid Waste Facility in a 1.1-million-gallon tank. The leachate is then hauled by SCMUA via tanker truck approximately 6 miles to its Upper Wallkill WPCF in Hardyston, New Jersey, for treatment. The proposed improvements will provide a long-term solution for conveying leachate for treatment.
