SPOTSWOOD BOROUGH LOAN CLOSING

NJ I-Bank and NJDEP Helping to Improve New Jersey's Infrastructure, One Project at a Time

Spotswood Borough recently closed on a $730,010 loan with the NJ Water Bank to finance the installation of approximately 4,000 linear feet of 6" Ductile Iron Pipe water main to replace the Borough's existing unlined, cast iron distribution mains. Because the pipes don't have a cement mortar lining, mineral deposits called tuberculation can form on the inside, which reduces conveyance capacity and contributes to poor water quality. Unlined pipes can also be responsible for leakages which contribute to a higher proportion of unaccounted for water and raise safe drinking water concerns caused by possible contamination through cracked pipes. The project also includes the installation of valves, fire hydrant assemblies and residential service connections up to the curb stops. Sanitary sewer collection system improvements include video inspection and cleaning of the existing mains, spot repairs, manhole repair and service connections. The project also includes improvements to the roadways, storm sewer, and the installation of a new roadway pavement with concrete curbs.
