JOINT MEETING OF ESSEX AND UNION COUNTIES FLOOD MITIGATION ACOE STORMWATER PUMP STATION

The Joint Meeting of Essex and Union Counties (JMEUC) recently closed on a loan with the NJ Water Bank to reduce impacts caused by natural disasters like Superstorm Sandy and to avoid loss of wastewater service. The project will promote resiliency and minimize potential service interruptions. The JMEUC proposes to protect public health and natural resources by minimizing the release of untreated sewage into the environment.

This project rehabilitates the existing Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) Stormwater Pumping Station. Specifically proposed is the removal of existing equipment, modifications to the building structure, and installation of three new storm water pumps and discharge piping. Two existing sluice gates will be replaced, and two new sluice gates will be installed. Stormwater piping influent to the pump station will be modified, and storm water inlet gratings will be replaced. A new seal water service to the pump station will be installed as well as new electrical power and site restoration.
