Wildwood City recently closed on two loans from the New Jersey Water Bank totaling $16.4 million to upgrade its aging sanitary sewer and drinking water infrastructure. The improvements will replace approximately 6,855 linear feet of water main, 197 water service connections, and 16 fire hydrant assemblies within the city's right of way.
The existing water distribution system is outdated and constructed from a mix of undersized Asbestos-Cement, ductile iron, and cast-iron pipe—materials that are prone to corrosion and deterioration over time. Many of the service connections include galvanized piping, lead, polyethylene, and other outdated fittings that pose risks to water quality and public health.
By replacing these aging components with modern materials, the city will significantly enhance water quality, reliability, and fire protection. The project will also reduce the risk of water main breaks and service interruptions, lower long-term maintenance costs, and ensure compliance with evolving health and safety standards.
These upgrades represent a critical investment in Wildwood's future—protecting residents, supporting tourism and economic development, and creating jobs during construction. The Water Bank financing makes these improvements possible in a cost-effective and sustainable manner for the community.
