BERGEN COUNTY UA LOAN CLOSING

NJ I-Bank and NJDEP Helping to Improve New Jersey's Infrastructure, One Project at a Time

The Bergen County Utilities Authority recently closed on a $57,000,000 loan with the New Jersey Water Bank to protect the plant and high value power supply assets using a Biogas Powered Electric Microgrid (BPEMG). Power supply assets include the Switchgear Building Vault, the CoGen Building and the Main Substation. The project includes expansion of the CoGen facility, installation of a digester gas storage tank, installation of a fats oil and grease receiving and handling station and modification of the blowers and aeration control system. This project will augment digester gas production, increase energy efficiency, and improve process control. These improvements will enable the treatment plant to remain functional during storm events, reducing direct impacts from sewage backups and overflows that can occur if the facility is damaged or unable to function properly.
