SPRUCE RUN RESERVOIR STRUCTURES REFURBISHMENT AND RESOURCE PRESERVATION PROJECT

The New Jersey Water Supply Authority (NJWSA) recently closed on a $50 million loan from the NJ Water Bank to reduce seepage in the Spruce Run Reservoir dam. This project involves injecting grout into the bedrock to reinforce the foundation and prevent soil migration.

The Spruce Run Reservoir, part of the Raritan Basin System, supplies raw water to over 1.5 million people in central New Jersey. Maintaining the integrity of its structures is crucial for meeting flow requirements in the Raritan River, which supports ecological health and downstream wastewater treatment.

Failure of these structures could flood critical infrastructure, including wastewater facilities. Upgrading them now improves resilience, reduces long-term risks, and ensures compliance with modern engineering standards.
