The South Monmouth Regional Sewerage Authority ("SMRSA") recently closed on a $1.5 million loan from the New Jersey Water Bank to replace its existing waste gas flare system, including associated piping, equipment, and controls. A waste gas flare is a safety device used to burn off excess gases generated during the wastewater treatment process. By safely combusting these gases, the system helps prevent harmful emissions and maintain environmental compliance.
This project is necessary to ensure continued reliable secondary wastewater treatment service and to maintain compliance with SMRSA's existing NJPDES and Air Pollution Control permits
