Maple Shade Township recently closed on a $3,196,134 loan with the New Jersey Water Bank to identify and replace all lead service lines within its water system.
The Township currently has approximately 176 known galvanized water services and 330 service lines of unknown material. Of those unknown lines, the township estimates that that roughly half, about 165, may contain lead.
To protect public health and comply with state requirements, Maple Shade plans to replace lead and galvanized service lines ranging from ¾-inch to 1-inch in diameter with new 1-inch copper lines. The project also includes digging test pits to verify the material of additional service lines that may require replacement.
