Hoboken City recently closed on a $3.4 million loan with the NJ Transportation Bank to add Vision Zero and resiliency improvements to various roads and intersections in Hoboken. Vision Zero is a road safety initiative that began in Sweden in the 1990s and has since been adopted by many cities around the world. Its core goal is to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, while increasing safe, healthy, and equitable mobility for everyone. Measures often include the improvements proposed in this project: a protected bicycle lane, high visibility crosswalks, curb extensions, green infrastructure through bio-swales, green/gray tanks, and bicycle parking. These improvements will enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety, reduce traffic-related injuries, and increase the city's resilience to stormwater and climate impacts.
