Chatham Borough recently closed on a $9.7 million loan with the NJ Water Bank to implement a lead line replacement program. The Chatham Water Department, which serves 9,212 residents, is launching a Lead Service Line Replacement Program for the Borough. The program will identify and replace more than 2,000 lead service lines, out of 3,260 total connections, as well as all lead-jointed pipes in the system. By 2031, all municipal- and customer-side service lines, along with leaded joints, will be replaced. The program will be closely coordinated with Borough paving and roadway projects to reduce disruptions and will involve collaboration with local, County, and State partners.
