Buena Borough recently closed on a $2.6 million loan from the NJ Water Bank to replace approximately 4,920 linear feet of sanitary sewer main and 80 sanitary sewer service connections. The project also includes full restoration of asphalt roadways and concrete curbing. The existing sewer infrastructure, composed of aging vitrified clay and asbestos-cement pipes, has deteriorated over time due to corrosion and structural wear. Clay pipes are particularly vulnerable to collapse, which can lead to sewer blockages and groundwater infiltration. Replacing these outdated materials will improve system reliability, protect environmental quality, and support long-term public health.
