Boonton Town recently closed on a $5.5 million loan from the NJ Water Bank to fund major upgrades to the Wellfield Water Treatment Plant (Wellfield TP), the community's most vital water production facility. The Water Department has designated this plant as essential to maintaining safe and reliable water service for township residents.
Originally constructed decades ago, the facility is now considered outdated and well beyond its useful life. According to Boonton's five-year Capital Improvements Plan, developed under the Asset Management Plan (AMP), the Wellfield TP has been prioritized for significant upgrades. The AMP serves as a strategic forecasting tool used to identify infrastructure replacements and improvements necessary to meet the Town's long-term water service goals.
The planned improvements include:
These upgrades will modernize the plant, improve treatment efficiency, and ensure continued compliance with water quality standards for years to come.
