CLINTON TOWN SYSTEM-WIDE METER REPLACEMENT

Clinton Town recently completed water quality improvements that are being financed with $602,469 in loans from the NJ Water Bank, a low-rate funding program jointly administered by the DEP and the NJ I-Bank. Total savings for this project are estimated to be $109,947 over the 20-year term of the loan or 18% of the total project cost. In addition, this project created an estimated 7 direct construction jobs. 

The Town of Clinton is continuing to implement its Asset Management Plan, converting approximately 750 customer service meters to radio-read meters to improve billing efficiency and accuracy. The project is designed to reduce the percentage of non-revenue water in the system, minimizing the wastewater return to the sanitary sewer collection system. 

Janice Kovach, Mayor of Clinton, stressed the need for the project. "The original aged meters were not fully capturing actual customer usage. Installing these meters has increased accuracy, is encouraging water conservation, and decreasing wastewater returns. Strategic borrowing from the NJ Water Bank saved our ratepayers almost 20% over the 20-year term of the loan, reflecting environmental and financial conservation!"

The project was managed by Suburban Consulting Engineers and the meters were installed by National Metering Services.
