Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission ("PVSC") recently closed on a $183 million loan with the NJ Water Bank to construct a state-of-the-art standby power generating facility that will provide reliable backup power to its entire wastewater treatment plant. This critical infrastructure project is designed to proactively mitigate the risk of power outages, ensuring uninterrupted operations at one of the region's largest wastewater treatment facilities. By securing a continuous power supply, PVSC will maintain its ability to process and treat biosolids without disruption, safeguarding public health and protecting water quality in the surrounding areas.
The new generating facility will significantly enhance the plant's operational resilience, helping to prevent a regional biosolids treatment and disposal crisis in the event of utility failure or extreme weather conditions.
