The Lower Township Municipal Utilities Authority (the MUA) recently closed on a $5,078,349 million loan through the New Jersey Water Bank to replace the North Cape May water distribution system, which is more than 50 years old. The existing system includes asbestos cement water mains and service connections made up of a mix of plastic and galvanized fittings, with some galvanized piping. Many of the water mains were installed too close to the surface, leading to frequent cracking and elevated water temperatures during the summer months. In accordance with the New Jersey Water Accountability Act, the MUA is moving forward to replace this aging and vulnerable infrastructure.
