SUSSEX COUNTY MUA LANDFILL EXPANSION LOAN CLOSING

NJ I-Bank and NJDEP Helping to Improve New Jersey's Infrastructure, One Project at a Time

The Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCMUA) recently closed on a $27,181,599 loan with the New Jersey Water Bank for a landfill expansion project. The SCMUA proposes several improvements at their solid waste facility in Lafayette Township, including the construction of two landfill cells enclosed by mechanically stabilized earth berms.  Additional work will include, electrical, storm, waste and drinking water utilities and monitoring systems. Several buildings will be reconstructed/improved including a convenience center canopy, payment booth, retaining wall, roll off separation wall, employee shelters, and a contractor drop off canopy.

This project will provide proper management and disposal of solid waste including appropriate site controls and permit compliance. These improvements will also contribute to the protection of both surface and ground waters through the reduction and/or elimination of non-point sources of pollution.
